My Story: Why I Created LaidOffCoin ($OFF)

When I was 10 years old, my dad lost his job — and it destroyed my family. My parents divorced soon after, and my mom raised three kids in a low-income home. She struggled, but she never gave up. Watching her fight to keep us afloat taught me what hard work really means.

Since then, I’ve always given everything to my job. That memory — my dad losing his work and our family falling apart — lived in the back of my mind. I promised myself I’d never let that happen to me.

I started working at 15. By 30, I was in telecommunications — a career that lasted over 20 years. I survived merger after merger, layoff after layoff, restructuring after restructuring. My team shrank from 38… to 17… to 9… to 7… to 5… and finally 3. Somehow, I always made it through.

Until I didn’t.

On January 5, 2024, I had a heart attack — a “widow-maker,” with my LAD artery 100% blocked. I survived. I missed just one week of work. At the end of that week, they laid me off.
